Sergio Perez has shared that he thinks problems with the brakes were behind his bad Singapore GP qualifying result as he finished only P13.
After a Friday full of struggles and not really great Singapore GP forecast for Red Bull, Max Verstappen somehow managed to squeeze second best qualifying lap time out of his RB20 and will start next to Lando Norris in the front row tomorrow.
However, Red Bull’s other driver, Sergio Perez had a totally opposite qualifying session today as he suffered an early exit in Q2. The Mexican driver was only able to beat Esteban Ocon and Kevin Magnussen in the second part of today’s qualifying and will begin the race from P13 tomorrow.
He still has a chance to start one place higher as Carlos Sainz might need a new gearbox after his Q3 shunt, which would result in a 10-place grid penalty, pushing the Mexican driver one place up on the grid.
After qualifying, Perez was very disappointed with the outcome of his session and highlighted that he thinks problems with brakes might be behind the bad result.
“It was a very tricky session, Q1 was very nice, the progression that we had with the tyres and the car, and everything was going in the right direction,” the Red Bull driver said.
“The track was ramping up but Q2 all of a sudden it became quite difficult to nail the lap, I only found a tenth and we were struggling, mainly with the tyres and something was going on with the brakes for me.
“If anything, we went slower, we were lacking a lot of grip through the lap and not getting it in the right window.
“How we are using the tyres has been quite a difficult thing this weekend up to now, so we have plenty of understanding to do.
“We have come from quite a strong weekend in Baku and then we seem to struggle quite a lot here. Unfortunately, we are out in Q2, it hasn’t been a straightforward weekend, I think we lost some potential from yesterday, so we have plenty of stuff to analyse.
“Overtaking around here is very tricky, we have a long night ahead of us tomorrow,” he added.
