News.GP journalist who’s all about the thrilling worlds of MotoGP and Formula 1.Jorge Martin captured his first MotoGP world title in 2024, a season defined by consistency and mental growth. Despite winning fewer races than in 2023, Martin’s 16 podium finishes and improved mindset propelled him past Francesco Bagnaia to claim the championship. Fellow Spaniard Pedro Acosta lauded Martin’s performance, calling his improved mentality the key to his success and expressing a desire to emulate his approach.
Jorge Martin won his first-ever world title, despite winning fewer races than in 2023. Martin claimed around 10 victories across Sprint and Sunday races but managed to gather 80 more points than he did in 2023.
Over the season, Martin secured 16 podiums, which helped him edge out his rival, Francesco Bagnaia. Pedro Acosta praised Martin’s 2024 performance, emphasizing that his improved mentality made him a deserving champion.
“He deserves [the title]. He made a massive step forward compared to last season,” Acosta told Crash.net. “Maybe he didn’t win as many races, but he was unbelievably consistent!
“The consistency I lost, he gained!” Acosta quipped.
“He was super calm, avoided mistakes, and didn’t waste time. He absolutely deserved it.”
Looking ahead to 2025, Acosta is set to join the factory KTM team after an impressive rookie season. The young rider achieved a pole position at Motegi, and over the season, he gathered seven podium finishes and ended the year in sixth place in the rider standings.
Reflecting on Martin’s progress in 2024, Acosta expressed a desire to emulate Martin’s approach.
“From the start of the season, I focused on understanding the MotoGP class,” Acosta explained. “We saw how mentally strong Martin became, how Bastianini made a comeback, and how Maverick performed incredible races with Aprilia—sometimes even surprising themselves.”
He continued: “We made plenty of mistakes but also had some fantastic moments—battling Ducatis, fighting experienced riders. For that, we have to be more than happy.”
