The 2024 MotoGP season hit a high point at the Motul Solidarity Grand Prix of Barcelona, with Takaaki Nakagami leading Free Practice 1. As the title battle heats up, Pedro Acosta and Alex Marquez also delivered strong performances, while defending champion Francesco Bagnaia faced a challenging start. Here’s a look at all the key moments from the opening session.
MotoGP started off in action, while also setting the stage for the title-deciding weekend. Free Practice 1 proved eventful, with Takaaki Nakagami topping the session. This marks a memorable moment for Nakagami as he enjoys his last weekend as a full-time rider. Pedro Acosta claimed P2 after an early crash caused by a collision with his teammate. Luckily, both recovered brilliantly and secured strong results. Alex Marquez rounded out the top three with an impressive performance.

Fourth place went to Brad Binder, who completed over 20 laps overall and delivered a solid performance for the team. Championship leader Jorge Martin ended the session in fifth. Enea Bastianini finished in P6, ahead of his teammate Francesco Bagnaia, who placed seventh. The reigning champion was 0.058s off Nakagami’s time and began the weekend trailing behind his rival. Bagnaia’s session started dramatically with a crash at Turn 1.

Maverick Viñales secured P8, followed by Jack Miller, who marked his return to action with P9. Miller edged out Marc Marquez, who claimed the final spot in the top 10. Further down the grid, Aleix Espargaro finished 14th, as this is his final weekend before he parts ways with MotoGP forever.
