News.gp journalist and a girl with big dreamsRed Bull advisor Helmut Marko believes that Max Verstappen has a psychological advatage over Lando Norris, which will help him win the 2024 championship battle.
With just six races left in the 2024 F1 season, Lando Norris faces a significant challenge, needing to close a 52-point gap to Max Verstappen in the Drivers’ Championship to claim his first-ever world champion title.
That will be difficult, as Verstappen has repeatedly shown he can deliver remarkable performances despite the RB20 issues, as seen by the wide gap between him and teammate Sergio Perez.
Now, Red Bull plans to introduce an upgrade package at this week’s United States Grand Prix, which could play a key role in their push for the Constructors’ Championship and help Verstappen in the title fight.
Because McLaren isn't looking to introduce new updates anytime soon due to the problems other teams have faced when adding new car components, any improvements from Red Bull could destroy Norris' title hopes.
On that note, Red Bull motorsport advisor Helmut Marko is confident that Verstappen will beat Norris to secure his fourth consecutive world champion title.
“He [Verstappen] is the best,” Marko said in a video interview for Motorsport Magazin.
“He’s the fastest and above all, has the mental strength compared to Charles Leclerc who could fight for a while theoretically, and Lando Norris.
“We know he [Norris] has certain weaknesses in his mental state.
“I have read about certain rituals he has to do on race day so that he can even perform well.”
Norris has openly stated in the past that he doesn't cope well with pressure, and at times, nerves can stop him from drinking during races or eating beforehand, which can definitely play a role if the title battle heats up.
However, McLaren still leads the Constructors' Championship by 41 points over Red Bull, aiming for their first title since 1998.
