Saturday at Aragon brought plenty of excitement, with Marc Marquez delivering a flawless performance. Marquez secured pole position and claimed his first race victory, outpacing Jorge Martin, who couldn’t match his speed. Pedro Acosta finished third, while Francesco Bagnaia crossed the line in ninth. Starting from pole in the Aragon Grand Prix, Marquez now has a prime opportunity to secure his first race win since 2021. Let’s take a look at some interesting facts:

  1. Marc Marquez has achieved pole position for the sixth time in ten appearances at this track. This is his second pole of the season, following Jerez. His pole time advantage of 0.840s is the largest in dry qualifying since Valencia 2011. Marquez is now aiming for his first victory since Emilia-Romagna 2021, which could also be his first Grand Prix win with Gresini, and his sixth win at this circuit.
  2. Pedro Acosta impressed everyone with his second-place finish. The rookie started in Q1 and made his way into Q2, equaling his best MotoGP qualifying result from Austin this year. The 20-year-old rider will aim to become the second-youngest premier class winner.
  3. Francesco Bagnaia, who secured pole in the last two races at this circuit, qualified third. This is his seventh top-three qualifying result of the season. After a not-so-great Saturday, he will aim for his eighth Grand Prix win of the year, which could make this his best MotoGP season in terms of victories. If he succeeds, he would become the first rider since Marc Marquez to achieve eight or more wins in one season, joining an elite group that includes names like Marc Marquez, Casey Stoner, Valentino Rossi, and more. Yesterday, Bagnaia lost his lead in the championship and is now three points behind Jorge Martin.
  4. Jorge Martin qualified fourth despite an early crash in Q2, marking this as the fourth time he missed the top three in qualifying. On Sunday, Martin will aim to secure his third win of the season. After yesterday, he regained the lead in the championship by three points.
  5. Alex Marquez qualified fifth, making this his second-best qualifying result of the year. He will try to add a podium finish to his collection or maybe even a race victory.
  6. Johann Zarco was the first Honda rider to go directly to Q2 yesterday, qualifying 10th, which marks his best result with Honda so far. He will aim to continue achieving his best results with Honda.
  7. Aleix Espargaro qualified 11th, his worst qualifying result since last year. He will aim to redeem himself and possibly return to the podium for the first time since last year.
  8. Maverick Viñales qualified 12th, marking his worst qualifying result of the season apart from Catalunya. He will aim to get on the podium, following his win in Austin this year.
  9. Third in the championship standings is Enea Bastianini, who qualified 14th, his worst result since Valencia last year. A victory on Sunday would be his seventh in the MotoGP category, placing him equal with Jorge Martin for fourth on the list of most successful Ducati riders.
