Marc Marquez has once again demonstrated his exceptional prowess at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA) by securing pole position for the upcoming Americas Grand Prix.
Luca Marini and Fabio Quartararo advanced from Q1 into the top 12 for the decisive qualifying session at the Grand Prix of Americas.
Q2 kicked off with a strong start from Marc Marquez, who immediately laid down a benchmark lap of 2:01.5. The times behind him were incredibly close – Fabio Di Giannantonio was second, and Francesco Bagnaia third, both trailing by around two-tenths of a second.
The final moments of qualifying were filled with drama, as several riders set personal bests in different sectors.
With just a minute and a half remaining, Alex Marquez briefly took provisional pole with a 2:01.4 lap.
But then came another flash of brilliance from Marc Marquez, who delivered a sensational 2:01.0 just before the session ended – securing pole position. No one was able to beat the Spaniard’s time, giving the Ducati rider his eighth pole position at the Circuit of the Americas, where he will now aim for his eighth win on Sunday.
Fabio Di Giannantonio took second after having his previously cancelled lap time reinstated. The Italian rider was just one tenth of a second slower than Marc Marquez.
Completing the front row was Alex Marquez, brother of the pole sitter.
Ducati's dominance continued, but it was Pedro Acosta on the KTM who claimed an impressive fourth.
Franco Morbidelli outpaced Bagnaia for fifth, with Marini in seventh and Joan Mir eighth – an encouraging result for Honda.
Jack Miller and Maverick Viñales rounded out the top ten.
