The Marquez brothers once again set the pace at Losail, but it was Yamaha’s Fabio Quartararo who delivered a surprise by securing a spot on the front row alongside the Ducatis.
Marc Marquez secured another pole position in the 2025 season during Saturday's qualifying session at the Qatar Grand Prix. He edged out his brother, Alex Marquez (Gresini Ducati), who once again had to settle for second place on the grid.
The hot afternoon session at the Losail Circuit brought a couple of big surprises. The first came when Marc’s teammate, Francesco Bagnaia, crashed on his final lap, leaving him in 11th place on the grid. This makes it difficult for him to replicate his victory from the previous race in America.
Another unexpected twist was Fabio Quartararo's strong performance, earning a spot on the front row with the factory Yamaha. The 2021 Doha GP winner briefly held the fastest time with just over a minute to go but was eventually overtaken by both Marquez brothers.
The VR46 Ducati riders continued their impressive form, with Franco Morbidelli claiming fourth and his teammate Fabio di Giannantonio following closely in fifth. Maverick Viñales (Tech3) secured sixth, maintaining his strong qualifying performance, this time as the fastest KTM rider.
Johann Zarco (LCR Honda) took seventh, with Fermin Aldeguer (Gresini Ducati) in eighth, and Quartararo’s Yamaha teammate, Alex Rins, completing the top nine.
Aprilia rookie Ai Ogura was the only rider from the brand to make it into Q2, impressively finishing in 10th, just ahead of Bagnaia. Pedro Acosta (factory KTM) had a quieter session, settling for 12th.
