The Argentina Grand Prix kicked off in style, with Marc Marquez wasting no time dominating the free practice session. Marquez set the fastest lap at 1:38.937s, edging out Johann Zarco by just 0.026 seconds. Meanwhile, Francesco Bagnaia finished the session in 16th.
FP1 started with some damp patches due to overnight rain, but the riders managed to adapt, as they could use slick tires from the beginning.
Zarco was the first to set the pace, posting a 1:40.884s lap. Yet, Marco Bezzecchi managed to take the lead with a time of 1:40.383s before Alex Marquez improved it to 1:40.359s.
With 25 minutes left, Marc Marquez took the lead on the timesheets with a time of 1:39.991s. However, Zarco quickly responded and improved his time to 1:39.397s, briefly leading the session before Marc Marquez retook the lead.
As the session neared its end, Marquez found some extra speed and clocked in a time of 1:39.385 with eight minutes left. In those crucial minutes, Marc became the first to break into the 1:38s time range, setting a 1:38.937. This was enough to secure the top spot, even with Zarco coming close behind him.
Alex Marquez finished third, followed by Franco Morbidelli in fourth and Marco Bezzecchi in fifth.
Marc Marquez’s teammate Bagnaia had a frustrating session, finishing 16th. However, to be fair, he struggled with rear grip and didn’t change his medium tires throughout the session, just like Marquez.
Among the rookies, Ai Ogura led in 15th, while his teammate Raul Fernandez had a minor crash at Turn 1, 15 minutes into the session.
With practice underway, all eyes are on Marc Marquez to see if he can maintain his dominance through the weekend.
