News.GP journalist who’s all about the thrilling worlds of MotoGP and Formula 1.With Miguel Oliveira recovering from surgery, Aprilia test rider Lorenzo Savadori steps in for this weekend's Japanese MotoGP, marking his debut with Trackhouse Racing. Team manager Wilco Zeelenberg discusses expectations and development goals, while Savadori expresses excitement about returning to Motegi after 14 years.
With Miguel Oliveira recovering from his successful operation, Trackhouse has tapped Aprilia test rider Lorenzo Savadori to step in for this weekend's Grand Prix.
Savadori, who previously raced for the team under its former RNF ownership, will be the first rider other than Oliveira or Raul Fernandez to represent Trackhouse.
Trackhouse stated, “In Japan, Lorenzo Savadori will take Miguel's place, so we'll have two riders back on track," said team manager Wilco Zeelenberg. "We stuck to our logistical plan, bringing the whole team to Motegi to wrap up this intense series of three back-to-back races together.
"That said, it won’t be easy for Lorenzo to deliver top results immediately. We're hoping Aprilia can use this opportunity to continue its development program and gather valuable feedback for the new bike.
“Of course, Miguel is in our thoughts, and we’re hoping for a swift recovery and his return to the team soon.”
Savadori has made four wild-card appearances for Aprilia this year, with a best finish of 20th, while he also race-tested prototype components for the RS-GP.
“First off, I want to wish Miguel a speedy recovery,” Savadori said. “As for the Japanese GP, it’s been over 14 years since I last raced at Motegi in 2010, but I’m excited to get back out there. It’s a fun track, and I’m eager to start Free Practice 1. I’m also proud to make my debut with the Trackhouse Racing Team, and we’ll keep working on the bike to make improvements with every session.”
Both Savadori and Fernandez will continue with the Aprilia MotoGP project in 2025, while Oliveira heads to Pramac Yamaha, Maverick Viñales will join Tech3 KTM, and Aleix Espargaro will shift to a testing role with Honda.
