News.gp journalist and a girl with big dreamsLewis Hamilton was involved in a crash while testing with his new team Ferrari in Barcelona on Wednesday morning.
Lewis Hamilton was involved in a crash during Ferrari’s private test at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
The seven-time world champion, who recently made the switch from Mercedes to Ferrari, was taking part in a three-day test alongside team-mate Charles Leclerc when the incident occurred on Wednesday morning.
After completing his first laps in Ferrari colours during a shakedown at Fiorano last week, Hamilton continued his adaptation to the team by getting behind the wheel of the SF-23 in Spain.
The test was designed to help him familiarise himself with Ferrari’s setup ahead of the 2025 season. However, his running was cut short when he crashed in the final sector while pushing the car to its limits. Fortunately, Hamilton jumped out of the cockpit unscathed.
The crash reportedly caused significant damage to the car’s suspension and aerodynamic components, forcing Ferrari mechanics to carry out repairs. The delay has also affected Leclerc’s scheduled running, as the team works to restore the car to working condition.
Ferrari had chosen Barcelona for this test to take advantage of better weather conditions following Hamilton’s rain-hit debut in Fiorano. However, the disruption caused by the crash means Leclerc will have to wait until the repairs are completed before continuing his programme.
Hamilton’s crash adds to an unusual pattern, as he also suffered incidents while testing McLaren and Mercedes machinery before making his competitive debuts with those teams.
