News.GP journalist who’s all about the thrilling worlds of MotoGP and Formula 1.MotoGP champion Jorge Martin has confirmed he won’t be racing at the Americas Grand Prix as he struggles to recover from a training injury. His return remains uncertain, putting his title defense in jeopardy
It was officially confirmed that Jorge Martin will miss the Americas Grand Prix, as he won’t be able to recover in time.
Martin’s injury, which he suffered in a training accident back in February, has already forced him to miss two rounds of the season. Just when there was hope for his return, he announced that it’s not going to happen.
“I’m really struggling to recover as quickly as I would like,” Martin said in a video call during the pre-event press conference in Argentina. “I won’t be racing at Austin.”
However, Martin is also unsure if he will be ready for the Qatar Grand Prix, which is scheduled for April 11-13.
“I don’t know if I can be in Qatar,” he admitted. “It’s really early to say that.”
Before Martin returns, he wants to test the Aprilia RS-GP25, mainly because his pre-season preparations were cut short after he injured himself on the first day of testing.
“I’d like to do some kind of test before coming back to racing because I’m not feeling all that good,” Martin explained. “I know Massimo [Rivola, Aprilia CEO] is working on that, so let’s see if it’s possible.”
Despite his injury, he is still keeping an eye on his new team. “I’m cheering for Aprilia – hopefully they can improve a little more and be close to that podium,” Martin said.
However, missing the first three rounds of the season is a big setback for his chances of defending the title. So, even if Aprilia performs very well, catching up in the championship will be nearly impossible.
