Jorge Martin is close to securing his first title, and he could do it in the sprint race on Saturday. Martin needs to outscore his rival Francesco Bagnaia by just two points in the sprint to take the championship.

Here’s how Martin can take the 2024 title in the sprint race:

If Martin finishes      Bagnaia must finish
1st his result won´t affect the title
2nd 3rd or lower
3rd 5th or lower
4th 6th or lower
5th 7th or lower
6th 8th or lower
7th 9th or lower
8th 10th or lower
9th or lower the title continues into Sunday

If Martin wins the sprint, he will secure the title before the main race on Sunday. He could also take the title by finishing as low as eighth. Here is how Martin can take the title on Saturday. Bagnaia’s best chance to win the title is by winning the sprint and pushing the battle to Sunday. The most likely outcome, based on both riders’ current form, might be Bagnaia winning with Martin finishing right behind him. In that case, Martin would enter Sunday’s race with a 21-point lead. Even if Bagnaia wins the race, Martin could still take the title if he finishes in the top 11.
