News.GP journalist who’s all about the thrilling worlds of MotoGP and Formula 1.The 2025 Spanish Superbike Championship's opening round at the Jerez Circuit has been postponed due to severe flooding caused by an intense storm. Originally set for March 22-23, the event has now been rescheduled to April 5-6. As cleanup and repairs continue, the track is expected to be ready for the upcoming MotoGP weekend in late April.
If it wasn’t already enough, the Circuito de Jerez had been dealing wiht flooding, causing it to postpone the season's opening round of the 2025 Spanish Superbike Championship. The opening round was originally set for March 22-23, yet the event has now been rescheduled for April 5-6, giving the organizers extra time to recover the circuit from these devastating weather conditions.
And despite the damage during the recent Jerez MotoGP race weekend, currently scheduled for April 25-27, it is expected to go ahead as planned. Even though the situation has raised concerns, mostly after last year’s heavy rain in Valencia, the officials have reassured fans that the repairs will be completed in time.
The Jerez circuit was one of the hardest-hit areas during an intense storm that dropped more than 120 liters of rain per square meter within 30 minutes. This sudden downpour led to flooding, structural damage, and mud being carried across the track. The most significant damages were reported at Turns 7, 8, and 11, where mud, water, and gravel covered the track. Also, at Turn 13, there was asphalt damage, and buildings and outer track areas also suffered some structural damage.
The Jerez Mayor, María José García-Pelayo, confirmed that cleanup and repair works are in full swing. She explained that while some corners have suffered surface damage, the main track remains intact.
“A major cleaning effort is required because, even after the water is cleared, a lot of mud remains,” she stated.
To reassure motorsport fans, she added, “The Jerez Circuit is fully committed to ensuring that the Spanish Grand Prix takes place as scheduled. All necessary resources are being deployed to restore the track as quickly as possible.”
With intense work underway, the Circuito de Jerez is determined to be back to host the Superbikes and MotoGP.
