Alex Marquez, the Gresini Ducati rider, has been making waves in the 2025 MotoGP season, earning a reputation as one of the most aggressive riders on the track. While his aggressive riding style has often sparked discussions, it has also helped him achieve remarkable success so far this season.

After the first two rounds, Alex has proven to be a standout performer, trailing only his brother, Marc Marquez. Alex has secured second place in both sprint races and the full Grand Prix races. Even more impressive is that Alex has outpaced factory Ducati rider Francesco Bagnaia, who benefits from a better bike.

However, Alex's aggressive approach hasn’t always worked in his favor. TNT Sports’ Suzi Perry pointed out that inconsistency has been a problem for the young rider. She explained, “He has flashes of brilliance, but then the ‘red mist’ takes over.” Michael Laverty agreed, emphasizing Alex's fiery competitiveness: “He is probably the most aggressive rider, especially in the early laps.”

Laverty even recalled a few incidents from last season where Alex’s aggressive riding led to clashes with Johann Zarco. Despite his friendly approach off the track, Alex transforms into a fierce competitor once the visor drops. “Red mist is definitely a thing for Alex,” Laverty added.

The good news for Alex is that he has been working hard to control that aggression. As Laverty pointed out, Alex has shown he can be fast at every track so far in 2025, and he looks to be a serious contender for the title. “He could be the surprise package of the 2025 season. He could be a real threat to Pecco and trouble Marc on occasion,” Laverty said.

After two rounds, Alex sits second in the championship standings, just 16 points behind his brother Marc. Before the season started, not many expected Alex to challenge for the championship, but Marc believes in his brother.

Laverty also shared insight into Alex’s mindset. Despite being known for his calm and polite nature, Alex is determined to reach the top. “He believes in himself,” Laverty explained. “He wants to be as good as Marc, to learn how to extract more from the bike and the tires. Nobody else can do that like Marc.”

When it comes to racing against his brother, Alex has made it clear that the two don’t treat each other any differently than they would any other rival. In response to speculations that they may not race aggressively against each other, Alex said, “Stop talking about how much respect we have for each other. I race as hard as I would against anyone else.”

So, can Alex win races this season? That’s a story we will have to wait and see.
