F1 has announced that it has reached an agreement with the Monza Circuit, which hosts the Italian GP every year, to extend its place on the calendar for at least six more years.
Formula 1 has confirmed that the Italian Grand Prix will remain on the calendar until at least 2031, following a new six-year extension with the iconic Autodromo Nazionale Monza.
This agreement ensures that Monza will continue to host the prestigious event for several more years, with the previous contract set to expire at the end of 2024.
The extension marks another significant deal for F1, with Monza joining other long-standing races, such as Monaco, which also secured a new five-year contract earlier this month.
The Monza circuit, located just outside of Milan, known for its high-speed straights and historic corners, has been a staple on the F1 calendar since the championship's first season in 1950 and has hosted the Italian Italian GP every year, except in 1980 when it was undergoing major renovations.
It's one of the oldest and most famous tracks in motorsport, often referred to as the "Temple of Speed," which only five drivers from the current grid (Fernando Alonso, Lewis Hamilton, Charles Leclerc, Pierre Gasly, and Max Verstappen) managed to tame.
Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula 1, said: “I am delighted that the Italian Grand Prix will remain on the calendar until 2031.
“Monza is at the very heart of Formula 1 history and the atmosphere each year is unique as the Tifosi gather in huge numbers to cheer on Ferrari and the drivers.
“The recent upgrades to the circuit’s infrastructure and the planned investment show a strong commitment to the long-term future of Formula 1 in Italy, and I want to thank the President of the Automobile Club d’Italia, the Italian Government, and the Lombardy Region for their continued passion and commitment to our sport.
“I also want to pay tribute to our incredible fans across the country who support Formula 1 so passionately.”
