News.GP journalist who’s all about the thrilling worlds of MotoGP and Formula 1.Honda launches its 2025 MotoGP with private testing at Buriram, introducing new Technical Director Romano Albesiano and gearing up for a competitive comeback.
The 2025 MotoGP season is set to launch with a bang at the Chang International Circuit in Buriram, Thailand, which will also host the opening race of the season. But before the lights go out, the roar of engines is already filling the Far East. Honda, determined to regain its place at the pinnacle of the sport, has booked the track for a private two-day test that promises to shape their competitive future.
A New Era for Honda
This test marks a significant moment for Honda as it introduces their new Technical Director, Romano Albesiano, to the fold. Albesiano, renowned for his transformative work at Aprilia, is making his first track appearance with Honda. Although he was absent during the Barcelona test late last year due to previous commitments with Aprilia, the Italian is now fully immersed with Honda in their quest to reclaim their former dominance in MotoGP.
Joining Albesiano on the circuit is Aleix Espargaro, along with Takaaki Nakagami, as both have stepped into testing roles following their retirement. Espargaro recently gave fans a sneak peek of the action on Instagram, sharing photos of himself and Albesiano proudly sporting Honda colors.
Buriram Test
Honda’s presence in Buriram isn’t just for show—it’s a strategic move made possible by their inclusion in the updated concessions system. This revised system allows additional testing opportunities for teams seeking to close the performance gap. The two-day session offers Honda a crucial opportunity to evaluate their 2025 machinery and make vital adjustments ahead of the season.
This isn’t the only testing fans can look forward to. Honda will return to action at the Sepang Shakedown Test from January 31 to February 2, followed by the Official Sepang Test on February 5. These sessions will provide further insight into the team’s progress and their readiness to compete at the highest level.
Team Presentation
Adding to the early-season excitement are the much-anticipated team presentations. Honda’s factory team is set to reveal their livery on February 1, with LCR Honda following on February 8. These reveals will not only showcase the visual identity of the bikes but also set the tone for the season ahead, as Honda looks to reignite its legacy in the competitive world of MotoGP.
