Ferrari boss Frederic Vasseur hasn’t ruled out Carlos Sainz returning to the team in the future after Lewis Hamilton’s time with them ends.
Carlos Sainz’s time with Ferrari came to an end at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, closing a four-year chapter with the famous team.
Ferrari had already decided before the 2024 season that they would not renew his contract, choosing instead to sign Lewis Hamilton on a three-year deal and Charles Leclerc already on a long-term contract, it was Sainz who had to make way for the new lineup.
Sainz had hoped to stay with Ferrari longer, especially after being the only driver outside of Red Bull to win a race in 2023. However, when Hamilton became available, Ferrari couldn’t resist signing him.
At the same time, Ferrari is looking ahead, aware that Hamilton will turn 40 before starting his journey with the team, while raising star Oliver Bearman, set to make his F1 debut with Haas in 2025, is already being viewed as the one to come after him.
Still, Ferrari boss Fred Vasseur has said he wouldn’t rule out working with Sainz again in the future, hinting that discussions regarding this topic already took place.
“Of course. We have already talked a couple of times about this,” he told DAZN.
“This is a very small world. There are only 10 teams and only six or seven top drivers.
“You never know what is going to happen in the future, but most of us – both Carlos on his side and us on our side – have to focus on our projects.
“We don’t know what will happen in 2027, 2028, 2029…”
