Fabio Di Giannantonio’s participation in the Sepang MotoGP test has been cut short after a crash left him with a collarbone fracture. The VR46 Ducati rider will undergo surgery in Italy, missing the rest of the test and facing a tight recovery schedule ahead of the 2025 season.
Fabio Di Giannantonio had to end his participation in the Sepang MotoGP test after he suffered a collarbone fracture in a crash on Day 1.
The Italian rider had already faced a long recovery over the winter break due to shoulder surgery from the Austrian Grand Prix.
Before heading into the pre-season, Di Giannantonio worked hard to get back to full fitness. He returned to the track last week for a private test on a Panigale V4 Ducati at Mandalika.
However, at the Sepang test on Wednesday, Di Giannantonio became one of several riders to crash. Even though it was initially reported that he was OK, further checks confirmed that he had fractured his collarbone. As a result, he will head back to Italy to undergo surgery, and unfortunately, he won’t be able to participate in the remainder of the Sepang test.
The injury happened after a second crash at Turn 5 during a practice start session at the end of the day.

Di Giannantonio, one of only three riders on the new GP25 Ducati this season, was unable to test the bike in Barcelona last November due to his shoulder surgery. With just one week to go before the next test in Buriram, Di Giannantonio faces a tight schedule to recover and get some valuable track time before the season kicks off.
Despite the crash, Di Giannantonio managed to complete 49 laps, finishing seventh fastest at the end of the day.
He is one of three riders who are forced to leave the Sepang test early due to injuries. Jorge Martin will return to Spain for surgery after a highside crash, while Raul Fernandez will sit out the rest of the day after injuring his hand in a crash as well.
