Yesterday, RB announced that Daniel Ricciardo will not finish the 2024 season in the team and will be replaced by Liam Lawson with immediate effect. The news triggered a variety of responses from F1 drivers and teams on social media, who paid tribute to one of the most beloved figures in the sport.
The first to thank Daniel Ricciardo after RB decided to let him go was none other than Red Bull itself, the team where he had his most successful years in Formula 1.
Next one in line was Alpine, former Renault, where Ricciardo spend two years after he decided to leave Red Bull. During that time he scored two podiums for the French manufacturer.
Even though Ricciardo’s two years with McLaren didn’t end on the best note, he became a key part of the team’s history with his incredible win at the 2021 Italian Grand Prix in Monza. McLaren thanked him for the memories.
Many current drivers also paid tribute to Ricciardo, sharing Instagram posts full of memories. One of them was seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, who praised the Australian’s unique personality.
Ricciardo’s close friend Pierre Gasly, known by fans as "PIERREEEE GASLYYYYYYYYYY," congratulated the Honey Badger on his career and wished him well for the future.
Gasly’s teammate, Esteban Ocon, reflected on the time he spent with Ricciardo at Renault, recalling how much he learned from him during their years as teammates.
According to George Russell, Formula 1 won’t be the same without the Australian driver.
Several former F1 drivers also reflected on their time with Ricciardo, including his good friend, 11-time Grand Prix winner Felipe Massa.
Whether through his victories on the track or his infectious smile off it, Daniel Ricciardo will be remembered as a driver who brought a unique blend of talent, charisma, and positivity to the world of Formula 1.
