Nigel Mansell supports Lewis Hamilton's 2025 move from Mercedes to Ferrari, where he will try to secure his eighth F1 world champion title.
Ahead of the 2024 F1 season, Ferrari shocked the F1 world, with the announcement that they had signed the seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, while parting ways with Carlos Sainz.
Hamilton is set to depart from Mercedes after a remarkable 12 years with the German manufacturer, during which he secured six out of his seven world championship titles.
He will go after his eighth world title with Ferrari, aiming to break Michael Schumacher’s record, which the Briton managed to only equal to this day.
At the same time, Hamilton is looking to become the first driver since Juan Manuel Fangio in 1956 to win a championship with three different teams.
Alongside Charles Leclerc next year, he’ll push to help Ferrari return to the top of Formula 1 and reclaim their winning legacy.
Nigel Mansell, the 1992 world champion and the last English-born driver to compete full-time for Ferrari in Formula 1, supports Hamilton’s move and believes it will be a successful one.
“I’ve been a Lewis Hamilton fan all the time and I predicted he’d be one of the best ever,” Mansell told Top Offshore Sportbooks.
“He’s done that. He gets a lot of criticism. I think what he’s done now to end his career in Formula 1 going to Ferrari is a magical step for him.
“He won’t realise, having been an ex-Formula 1 Ferrari driver, to drive for Ferrari is something incredibly special and he’ll feed off that.
“Give Lewis the car, he’ll get the job done, and so I predict that he will have a fabulous time at Ferrari.
“He’ll go into a different gear. He’ll be motivated again, and I expect Lewis to challenge for the World Championship in 2025.”
With two weeks remaining before the United States Grand Prix, Hamilton sits sixth in the championship just 16 points behind Carlos Sainz, aiming to steal the Spaniard’s fifth place on top of the Ferrari seat.
