MotoGP Ducati rider Enea Bastianini is about to change his bike for a rally car this weekend at the Rallylegend festival. The seven-time race winner will take the wheel of a Group B Audi Quattro S1 during the four-day rally event in San Marino.
Fresh off a fourth-place finish at last weekend’s Japanese Grand Prix, Bastianini will team up with Lamborghini’s test driver, Emanuele Zonzini. Both are expected to take turns driving the iconic Quattro.
The Audi Quattro S1, a car that competed in the legendary Group B era of the WRC, is powered by a turbocharged 2.1-liter engine. It debuted towards the end of the 1984 season, helping Audi secure second in the 1985 manufacturers' standings.
Bastianini isn’t the first MotoGP rider to join rallying. Franco Morbidelli also competed in the WRC at Rally Monza in 2020, where he finished 39th in his Hyundai i20 N Rally2. His mentor, Valentino Rossi, has also had his share of rally success, having won the Monza Rally Show seven times and made three WRC starts.
This event will mark 40 years since Stig Blomqvist won his title in 1984, and he will be back behind the wheel of an Audi Quattro. Double WRC champion Miki Biasion will also be there, driving a Lancia 037. It will also mark the 50th anniversary of the Lancia Stratos' first world title.
