Daniel Ricciardo is set to depart from RB immediately, marking the conclusion of his second stint in Formula 1 after only over 1 year with the Red Bull’s sister team.
The rumours that swirled around before the Singapore Grand Prix turned out to be true as RB has now announced that Daniel Ricciardo will leave the F1 team with immediately effect.
Red Bull and RB have quite some reputation with driver switches in the middle of the season. For example last year Ricciardo replaced Nyck De Vries ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix only after 11 races. The same happened with Pierre Gasly in 2019, when Red Bull dropped him back to Torro Rosso (now RB) after the summer break.
It really hasn’t been easy for Ricciardo in RB as he managed to only score points on five occasions this season, including an impressive fourth place in the Sprint race at Miami. He currently ranks 14th in the drivers’ standings, trailing his teammate Yuki Tsunoda by 10 points.
The future for Ricciardo is uncertain, but it is improbable that it will include a race seat on the 2025 Formula 1 grid.
With 14 seasons under his belt, Ricciardo achieved his highest finishes of P3 in the Driver’s Championship in both 2014 and 2016. Throughout his 258 Grands Prix-long career, he has raced for several teams, including HRT, Toro Rosso, Red Bull, Renault, McLaren, and RB.
“Everyone here at VCARB would like to thank Daniel for his hard work across the last two seasons with us,” said RB's boss Laurent Mekies.
“He has brought a lot of experience and talent to the Team with a fantastic attitude, which has helped everyone to develop and foster a tight team spirit.
“Daniel has been a true gentleman both on and off the track and never without that smile. He will be missed, but will always hold a special place within the Red Bull family."
Liam Lawson, the current Red Bull reserve driver, is anticipated to take over Ricciardo's seat for the remainder of the season, beginning with the upcoming United States Grand Prix in Austin.
