In an action-packed day at the Red Bull Ring, Jorge Martín shattered the lap record to take pole, while Francesco Bagnaia claimed victory in the Sprint race. With both riders tied in points, all eyes are on tomorrow’s race to see who will emerge as the champion.
Qualification
Today’s qualifying was packed with drama and another record-breaking performance. It began with a Q1 session where Jack Miller and Pol Espargaro showed great pace to advance to Q2. Espargaro moved forward, thanks to a faster second lap, as for most of the session, he set identical lap times with Miguel Oliveira. Unfortunately, Espargaro ended his Q2 session with a crash at Turn 3, dashing his hopes of a better starting position. In Q2, Bagnaia was the early frontrunner after setting a fast lap right at the start. However, luck wasn’t on his side, as with just a minute remaining, Martín overtook him and edged him out for the top spot. Bagnaia had to abandon his final flying lap and settled for second place on the grid. He is sharing the front row with Marc Márquez for the first time this season. Despite this unlucky moment, Bagnaia’s pace was remarkable in this session. Jorge Martín stole the spotlight by smashing the lap record with an incredible time of 1:27.748, securing pole position.
Sprint Race
Martín started the sprint from pole position but received a penalty that cost him a possible victory. Bagnaia, starting from second place, showed great performance as he took the sprint victory and regained the Championship lead. Marc Márquez was competitive, and it looked promising for him during the sprint as he was in second place. However, in the final laps, Márquez crashed and had to return to the pits, costing him his podium. Overall, the Sprint race was marked by intense battles throughout the field. Jack Miller and Brad Binder fought hard but finished just outside the top three, while Pol Espargaro recovered from his earlier crash with a solid performance. The podium was completed by winner Bagnaia, Martín, and Aleix Espargaro, who finished third. Overall, the Sprint race delivered action and set the stage for what looks like an exciting race tomorrow. With Bagnaia and Martín having the same number of points, tomorrow’s winner will take everything.
