The Assen Circuit has stepped up to aid the Valencia Circuit with a generous €50,000 donation to replace equipment damaged by the devastating floods that struck the region. The disaster, which claimed numerous lives and caused widespread destruction, also led to the relocation of MotoGP's Valencia Grand Prix.
The Assen Circuit has donated €50,000 to the Valencia Circuit to support replacing the equipment damaged by the devastating floods that struck Valencia.
The floods, which hit at the end of October, caused major damage to infrastructure and claimed the lives of many people. In the wake of the disaster, MotoGP's Valencia Grand Prix was canceled, with the event being relocated to Barcelona and renamed the Solidarity GP as part of the "Racing for Valencia" initiative.
While the Ricardo Tormo Circuit itself sustained no direct damage, the flooding severely impacted access roads and car parks. Additionally, the circuit reported that an excavator and a crane were damaged in the disaster.
Assen’s donation will help fund the replacement of the damaged machinery. The new equipment will feature a tribute to the Dutch TT venue. Nicolas Collado, general manager of the Ricardo Tormo Circuit, expressed profound gratitude for the solidarity shown by the motorsport community.
Arjan Bos, chairman of the Assen Circuit, also shared his support, stating: “We are deeply affected by what has happened in the Valencia region. We want to show that the MotoGP community stands together in times of adversity. We wish everyone, especially those connected to the circuit, strength during these tough times.”
The Ricardo Tormo Circuit plans to reopen on December 5 for private testing, with alternate routes in place until the damaged access roads are repaired.
In addition to Assen’s contribution, MotoGP has launched several auctions to support Valencia’s flood relief efforts. The Valencia-based Aspar team has also set up a GoFundMe campaign, which has already raised €152,944.
