News.GP journalist who’s all about the thrilling worlds of MotoGP and Formula 1.Alex Marquez has kicked off the 2025 MotoGP season in style, securing two podium finishes in the opening round. With the upgraded Ducati GP24, he’s proving to be a top contender. Is this the season he takes it to the next level?
Alex Marquez is off to a fantastic start in the 2025 MotoGP season. With two podium finishes in the first round, it's clear that he has adapted perfectly to the new Ducati GP24. Alex looks stronger than ever, and he is proving it.
Compared to last year, Alex struggled with the Ducati GP23, as did many other riders. A change in Michelin’s rear tire affected the bike’s balance, making it much harder to turn smoothly through corners. The increased rear grip meant that riders had to work harder to maintain speed without losing control.
Luckily, the GP24 has solved these issues. That’s why Jorge Martin and Francesco Bagnaia were able to navigate through corners without sacrificing their braking performance last season. So, it’s no surprise that Marquez has taken full advantage of this upgrade, which helped him deliver an impressive performance in Thailand, securing second place in both the sprint and main race.
When he spoke at the post-race press conference, Marquez shared his excitement about the bike. “I’m enjoying it a lot from the first day I tried this bike,” he said. “Even during testing in Catalunya, I felt comfortable right away. I could ride the way I wanted, which is so important because when you enjoy riding, you go fast.”
He admitted that he struggled last year with the GP23, but that experience helped him master the GP24. “Last year, I had a tough time with many aspects of the bike. It didn’t suit my riding style, and I had to push beyond my limits. But looking back, that experience is actually helping me now,” he explained. “Difficult seasons teach you twice as much as normal ones.”
And despite a strong start, Alex Marquez still believes there is room for improvement. “We’re on the right path, but I think we can get even more out of this bike. There are still areas where we need to keep improving.”
With this strong start to the season, Alex is proving to be a serious contender, even against his older brother, Marc Marquez.
