Alberto Giribuola, a highly regarded technician formerly with KTM, has been appointed as the new crew chief for Augusto Fernandez at Tech3. This change comes as Fernandez seeks to regain his confidence and improve his performance during a challenging season. Giribuola’s addition is also seen as a strategic move in preparation for Enea Bastianini’s arrival in 2025.
Renowned technician Alberto Giribuola has joined the Tech3 squad as the new crew chief for Augusto Fernandez, a change that has boosted Fernandez’s confidence.
Giribuola, previously with KTM as a performance engineer, was seen in Tech3 colors at the Aragon Grand Prix. He replaces Alex Merhand to support Fernandez and prepare for his role with Enea Bastianini in 2025.
Fernandez finished 13th in Aragon, matching his second-best result of the season and showing improved lap times after a challenging year. He has struggled against rookie teammate Pedro Acosta and has already lost his Tech3 spot for 2025 to Bastianini. Fernandez is expected to be announced as Yamaha’s test rider in 2025, following the anticipated announcement of Jack Miller’s move to Pramac.
Despite the timing being late in his current contract, Fernandez remains optimistic. “It’s good to get my confidence back,” he said. “Giribuola’s entry has revitalized my season. We’re making progress, and this weekend’s test will be crucial for a strong finish.”
Giribuola’s arrival has invigorated the 2022 Moto2 world champion. “I’m happy with the progress. It’s a process of adapting to each other’s ideas for the bike, and we’re already seeing improvements. This weekend and the upcoming test will be crucial for building a strong end to the season.”
Giribuola, who previously worked with Andrea Dovizioso at Ducati and supported Enea Bastianini’s successful 2022 season at Gresini, brings valuable experience. Fernandez is focused on proving himself. “I’m thinking positively and seizing this opportunity to demonstrate my capabilities,” he said. “With a new crew chief, I have a chance to show I can compete at the highest level, regardless of what bike I’ll be on.”
