News.gp journalist and a girl with big dreamsLewis Hamilton is expected to make his Ferrari debut during a testing day in late January, as they prepare together for the 2025 season.
Reports from reliable sources suggest that Lewis Hamilton could make his first on-track appearance with Ferrari later this month during a TPC day.
The test would be an important step as he begins adapting to his new team ahead of the 2025 Formula 1 season. If confirmed, the run would also see Ferrari making full use of its limited private testing allowance under the FIA’s revised regulations.
The updated rules, introduced for 2025, now restrict teams to a maximum of 1,000 kilometers of Testing of Previous Cars (TPC) per year, spread across four days. This change followed criticism of extensive private testing sessions, such as Max Verstappen’s extended run in Red Bull’s 2022 car at Imola last year, as his team worked to fix the RB20’s problems with handling over kerbs.
Hamilton’s first run is expected to take place at Ferrari’s Fiorano track on January 20 or 21, depending on the weather conditions.
After that, the team will reportedly move to the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya for more testing, where Ferrari has reserved four track days, giving them flexibility to run on the best weather days while staying within the rules.
It remains unclear which car Hamilton would drive during these sessions, with Ferrari considering both the SF-23 from 2023 and the F1-75 from 2022. Regardless of the choice, the sessions would provide valuable time for Hamilton to get familiar with the team’s setup and way of working.
Although not yet confirmed, these testing plans show how Ferrari is aiming to prepare Hamilton for a smooth transition. If the reports are accurate and these sessions go ahead, they could play a key role in Hamilton’s transition to Ferrari and the team’s preparation for the 2025 season.
