News.gp journalist and a girl with big dreamsValtteri Bottas is considering a move to IndyCar if he doesn't secure a Formula 1 seat for 2026, while keeping options open for other racing opportunities.
Valtteri Bottas, who is currently a reserve and test driver for Mercedes, is thinking about his future in motorsport. If he doesn’t get a seat in Formula 1 for the 2026 season, Bottas is considering a move to IndyCar.
"Also, at the moment, I'm thinking, if Formula 1 for '26 wouldn't happen for some reason, then my focus probably would shift to IndyCar," he told RacingNews365.
"So that's also something that could be interesting to try at least, to do some testing. Whether it's an IndyCar race or a test, that's something that's really interesting.
"[2026] is a long way away, but it will come quick, so my next move is a lot to do with '26 and [I'm] definitely planning that now."
His main focus is on making the right choices to secure his future in motorsport. He is particularly interested in a potential opportunity with Cadillac, which is joining F1 in 2026. The team is reportedly looking for a second driver with F1 experience, which makes Bottas a strong candidate given his history in the sport.
For now, Bottas is staying active with other motorsport events. He will be competing in the Race of Champions in Sydney in March, alongside his fellow Finnish driver, Mika Hakkinen. This event gives Bottas a chance to stay sharp while having fun. He also wants to get back into rallying, a sport he enjoys but hasn’t been able to do in recent years.
"Mainly for fun and keeping sharp, was rallying," he said. Bottas also mentioned his interest in the Australian Supercars series, saying, "I’ve always wanted to try Supercars, see how it is."
As he plans for the future, Bottas is keeping his options open. Whether he ends up in F1, IndyCar, or another series, he is eager to keep racing and find the right path for his career.
