When Sergio Perez joined Red Bull in 2021, he was well-respected for his strong performances during his years with the mid-field team Force India, later renamed as Racing Point.

Over his almost 14-year-long F1 career, Perez has earned 39 podiums and 6 race victories, including an unforgettable one at the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix, where he fought back from last place to claim the top spot on the podium.

Yet, he also holds two undesirable records: the most starts before winning a race (190) and the most races before securing a pole position (219).

However, the 2024 season has been difficult for the Mexican driver, with no podium finishes since the Chinese Grand Prix in April and current 204-point deficit to his teammate Max Verstappen in the championship.

Despite that, his father Antonio Perez Garibay, believes that he will become a Formula 1 world champion in the future.

“The best of Checo Perez is yet to come,” he told Mexican Récord+.

“I am sure that in due course, Checo will have the weapons and the tools to fight for the world championship.

“I am very excited and I can say that Checo will be world champion.”

This weekend, Perez will compete in the Mexican Grand Prix, his home race, where he has always enjoyed incredible support but has yet to secure a win.
