Pedro Acosta admitted that he believes he threw away many potential victories during his rookie season by messing everything up.

While Acosta lived up to the hype after stepping up to MotoGP, his season on the KTM RC16 was marked by a series of mistakes and crashes, often when he was competing for strong results. One of the most notable incidents was the Japanese Grand Prix, where Acosta qualified on pole but crashed out in both the sprint and the main race.

Looking back at his first season, Acosta reflected that victories were within reach in 2024. However, his own errors prevented him from seizing the opportunities, leaving him with only second-place finishes.

"We were fighting for many wins throughout the season, but the problem was I messed everything up," he said. "In the end, the goal to fight for victories was there, and it was realistic, not just a dream. It's hard to look back and see how many chances I wasted, but it's also part of the job."

Despite his mistakes, Acosta finds himself in a really good position, currently fifth in the championship, which he described as a notable achievement. "With all the mistakes I made this season, it's unbelievable I'm still in P5," he said. "It's important, but what's more important is finishing the year on a high note, with good results."

Though he acknowledged several mistakes, Acosta remains the highest-placed non-Ducati rider in the standings, even outscoring his teammate Brad Binder.

Looking ahead to the season finale, Acosta rated his performance a 6/10, explaining that he had initially considered a much lower score, like 4.5, midway through the season. Reflecting on his debut this year, he said: "Six out of 10 is fair. When I consider all the mistakes I made, the points I lost, the crashes, and the things I needed to try, six seems right."

Acosta also noted that in the last few races, he was experimenting with different approaches, which left him with less time to focus on consistent performance. "I said at the beginning that things would go up, but then we dropped off," he said. "From my perspective, maybe it hasn’t gone exactly as planned in the last couple of races, but it hasn’t been bad either."
