Haas F1’s rising star Ollie Bearman is set to step in for Kevin Magnussen on the opening day of the Sao Paulo Grand Prix weekend.

The Danish driver reported feeling unwell upon his arrival in Brazil, leading the team to call on their 2025 driver Bearman for Friday’s sessions.

With this weekend’s Sprint format, Bearman’s time on track will be limited to a single practice session before heading straight into Sprint Qualifying on Friday afternoon.

Bearman is no stranger to filling in on short notice; earlier this season, he replaced an ill Carlos Sainz for Ferrari at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

Recently, he also ran in the first free practice for Ferrari at the Mexico City Grand Prix, fulfilling the team's mandatory rookie rule. However, he was involved in a collision with Williams’ Alex Albon, which ended his session early.

This isn’t Bearman’s first appearance for Haas either. Earlier this season, he filled in for Magnussen at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix when Magnussen served a one-race ban due to receiving 12 penalty points.

In Brazil, the team remains hopeful that Magnussen could return by Saturday for the race qualifying, depending on his recovery. He won't be allowed to take part in the Sprint race, but since qualifying is considered a practice session according to the rulebook, Magnussen will be allowed to join the qualifying for the Grand Prix if he feels well enough.

Bearman is confirmed for a full-time Haas seat next season, joining forces with Esteban Ocon while Nico Hulkenberg moves to Sauber and Magnussen’s time in F1 appears uncertain.
