MotoGP has reaffirmed its commitment to holding the season-ending Valencia Grand Prix, scheduled for mid-November, but the event's future is uncertain due to extensive flooding in the Valencia region. As officials focus on relief efforts and infrastructure repairs, MotoGP has transformed the Ricardo Tormo Circuit into a relief center, with the final decision on the Grand Prix still pending.
MotoGP has officially confirmed its commitment to holding the season-ending Valencia Grand Prix while focusing on supporting repair efforts following recent flooding in the Valencia region. The floods have destroyed parking areas and roads around the circuit, though the track itself has remained undamaged.
The Valencia season finale is scheduled for November 15-17, with a post-season test planned for November 19. However, the recent floods have severely impacted access routes to the circuit, casting uncertainty over the event.
MotoGP has confirmed on its official social media that the circuit sustained no damage and is currently being used as a relief center for affected residents.
The flooding was caused by heavy rains that hit the region over the past 24 hours, delivering a month’s worth of rain in just eight hours.
In support, MotoGP has stated that its current priority is aiding those affected, with a final decision on the Valencia GP to be announced later.
“MotoGP is aware of the devastating impact of the heavy rains and flooding in Valencia,” read an official statement. “Sadly, over 50 lives have been lost in the region, and many people are still missing. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families.
“Thankfully, there have been no injuries among circuit staff, although exterior areas, especially access roads, have suffered significant damage. Initial reports indicate the track itself remains in good condition, though a thorough inspection is ongoing.
“At this time, discussing the event would be insensitive and inappropriate.
“We must prioritize helping those affected, and the circuit is currently operating as a relief center. MotoGP is committed to assisting in any way possible.
“Nonetheless, both local authorities and MotoGP remain dedicated to hosting the event as planned, and every effort will be made to do so.
“We will provide updates as soon as more information is available and will communicate any adjustments to the event setup if necessary.”
The Valencia circuit is also scheduled to host Formula E pre-season testing from November 4-7.
A similar situation occurred last year in Formula 1 when the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix was canceled due to flooding in that region.
