After a 20-year absence, MotoGP is set to make a thrilling return to Brazil, starting in 2026 at the Goiania circuit. The five-year deal, in partnership with Brasil Motorsport, promises extensive upgrades to the track and highlights MotoGP's commitment to expanding in South America.
MotoGP has recently announced that they have finalized a five-year agreement to return to Brazil at the Goiania circuit starting in 2026.
After a 20-year break from racing in South America, MotoGP organizers have partnered with Brasil Motorsport, the company behind the Formula 1 Brazilian Grand Prix. This deal covers the 2026–2030 seasons at the Goiania circuit.
The Goiania track previously hosted MotoGP events from 1987 to 1989, before the Brazilian Grand Prix moved to Interlagos in 1992. Between 1995 and 2004, Jacarepagua in Rio de Janeiro served as the venue for what was once called the Rio de Janeiro GP, until it was removed from the calendar.
To prepare for its MotoGP return, Goiania will undergo some upgrades next year. These upgrades will include expanding run-off areas and fully renovating the paddock facilities to meet the standards required for the MotoGP calendar.
“We are very much looking forward to returning to Brazil,” said Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of Dorna Sports, MotoGP’s rights holder. “We have a strong fanbase there who are excited about this news, and we are equally eager to race for them again. This agreement also represents a fantastic opportunity to grow in a key market for the sport and our manufacturers. Brazil is a global player that we believe deserves a spot on our calendar. Working with the Goias government and Brasil Motorsport, who have a proven track record, makes this project even more exciting.”
The addition of Brazil means there could potentially be two rounds in South America, alongside the Argentina Grand Prix, which is currently scheduled for 2025. However, the Termas de Rio Hondo race's contract expires after the 2025 season, so a new deal would be required for it to remain on the calendar.
In 2025, MotoGP is planning 22 rounds, which include a return to the Czech Republic’s Brno circuit and a new event at Hungary’s Balaton Park.
