Formula 1 has confirmed that the iconic Monaco Grand Prix will remain on the calendar until at least 2031.
The future of the Monaco Grand Prix on the Formula 1 calendar was uncertain for a time, as the race’s contract was set to expire in 2025.
Criticisms had also grown over the narrow street circuit’s lack of overtaking, often leading to processional races.
However, Monaco has now secured its spot with a new long-term deal that guarantees its presence on the F1 schedule through to 2031.
The event has been part of Formula 1 since the very first championship in 1950 and has been held every year since 1955. It is also the birthplace of Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, who this year turned his childhood dream into reality by winning his first race there.
As part of the new deal, Monaco’s traditional date will also change. From 2026, the race will move from its usual end-of-May slot to the first weekend of June, allowing it to avoid clashing with the Indianapolis 500. The 2025 Monaco Grand Prix, however, will still take place in May and mark the 75th anniversary of the race’s F1 debut.
To keep its place on the calendar, it is understood that Monaco has agreed to double its hosting fee to £25 million per year.
A statement from F1 read as follows:
"As Formula 1 experiences significant growth around the world, the appeal of the Monaco Grand Prix continues to be felt.
"The 2024 grand prix weekend was watched by a cumulative audience of over 70m fans and was the most-watched edition of the race in US history, and the third most-viewed F1 race of all time in the US.
"With this agreement the Automobile Club of Monaco, in coordination with the Principality, has made a significant commitment to Formula 1’s sustainability endeavours and its ambition to create a calendar which is sustainable for all stakeholders.
"From 2026, the Monaco Grand Prix will be contested on the first full weekend in June each year. The 2025 Monaco Grand Prix will take place next year from 23-25 May and will mark the 75th anniversary of the race’s official F1 debut."
