At the post-race press conference in Brazil, Max Verstappen gave a quiet poke at the British media, following recent controversies about supposed bias against him.
After his incredible Sao Paulo Grand Prix victory, Max Verstappen took a light-hearted dig at the British media at the FIA press conference after the race.
Starting from 17th on the grid, he delivered one of the best drives of his career to claim his 62nd victory, ending a ten-race winless streak. With this win, Verstappen now holds a solid 62-point lead over Lando Norris, bringing him closer to securing his fourth championship title.
Verstappen’s quiet poke at the British press comes after weeks of criticism from British media outlets and commentators following incidents at the United States and Mexico City Grands Prix. In both races, Verstappen’s driving was questioned, especially after he received two 10-second penalties in Mexico for incidents with Norris, whose nationality is British.
Speaking with Dutch journalists before the weekend in Brazil, he commented that he felt targeted because he held the “wrong passport,” pointing out recent bias controversies surrounding the British press.
In the post-race press conference, Verstappen hinted at this criticism, even noticing that some British journalists were missing.
“I have a quick question here,” he said.
“I mean, I appreciate all of you being here, but I don't see any British press!”
Laughing, he added: “They had to run to the airport, or they don't know where the press conference is?”
Both Alpine drivers, who scored surprising double podium, joined in the laughter, with Gasly smiling and replying, “That's a fair question.”
