The Spanish Grand Prix is relocating to Madrid, with the new circuit securing a ten-year contract starting in 2026. The future of the current host, Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, remains uncertain.
Madrid has signed a ten-year contract with Formula 1 to host a Grand Prix, starting from 2026.
The 5.47km track in the Spanish capital city, built around the top-tier IFEMA exhibition center and featuring street and non-street sections, will have 20 corners and is expected to have a qualifying lap time of 1 minute 32 seconds.
It can initially hold over 110,000 fans per day in grandstands, general admission, and VIP areas, with plans to increase capacity to 140,000 over the first few years, making it one of the largest F1 venues.
Just five minutes from Madrid-Barajas Adolfo Suarez airport, the Madrid Spanish Grand Prix will be one of the easiest races to reach, with convenient access via Metro, train, and city buses.
At the same time, it remains uncertain if Barcelona will continue to host the Grand Prix at the Circuit de Catalunya. However, it is believed that discussions are still ongoing with the Barcelona authorities regarding the future, and the possibility of hosting a second event in the country has not been entirely ruled out.
If Barcelona continues to host a Formula 1 event, Spain would join Italy as the second country to hold two F1 weekends. The only country with more races is the United States, which hosts events in three different locations.
Let’s go racing in Madrid!
