A young New Zealander Liam Lawson will replace Daniel Ricciardo in the RB F1 team for the remainder of the 2024 season.

This change comes after rumours about Ricciardo's dismissal swirled around social media. However, neither RB nor Red Bull, has officially hinted at Ricciardo's removal from the team after the Singapore GP weekend.

Nevertheless, Lawson's appointment has now been officially confirmed as he gears up to participate in the final six Grands Prix and three sprints of the 2024 Formula 1 calendar.

Lawson had been a candidate for a seat at RB for quite a while due to his impressive performances last year while stepping in for an injured Ricciardo at the Red Bull sister team, formerly known as AlphaTauri.

With a September deadline looming for Red Bull to activate an option on Lawson's contract, the team has decided to trust the 22-year-old New Zealander rather than risk losing him to a competitor on the grid.

“I’d also like to take this opportunity to welcome Liam. He already knows the Team well. He drove for us last season, and coped well under difficult circumstances, so it’ll be a natural transition,” said RB’s boss Laurent Mekies after dropping Ricciardo.

“It’s great to see young talent from within the Red Bull family make the next step. We’re looking forward to getting our heads down and focusing on the rest of the season together.”
