Lando Norris recently revealed that he doesn’t drink water at all during races and struggles with eating beforehand. Although nerves haven’t caused him any physical issues yet, he’s working on finding alternative ways so he will avoid future problems.
Lando Norris is now under a lot of pressure as he is only 62 points behind Max Verstappen in the Driver’s Championship standing and has a potential to still beat the Dutchman as he is now struggling with his car. At the same time, Norris’ team McLaren is only 8 points behind Red Bull in the Constructor’s Championship, where it looks very hopeful for the team from Woking.
Now the British driver admitted that he doesn’t really handle pressure well, often causing him not to drink during races or eat beforehand.
"I don't drink ever during a race. I often don't run with a drinks bottle," Norris admitted for RacingNews365.
"I think I've drunk from my water bottle twice ever in Formula 1 and both those times when I've just been very ill, like in Barcelona a couple of years ago.
"I do try and do it. I just really struggle to and often just forget. [I] don't like drinking during the race.”
When asked about possible problems it may cause, he explained that he has his own ways how to boost the energy differently.
"There are ways around things,” the Briton said.
"There'll be some days when I can happily eat a bit more, and there'll be other days where I just can't do much at all.
"Of course, fluids is generally one of the best ways of getting things in. So normally in the morning, I can drink a fair bit, and I can easily mix my drinks with certain carbohydrates and drinks to get some longer-term energy in."
