Guenther Steiner believes Lando Norris is now in a better position than Max Verstappen to win this year’s F1 world champion title.

Lando Norris delivered a commanding performance at the Singapore Grand Prix, leaving his rivals in the dust and securing victory with a 20-second lead over Max Verstappen.

This result reduced the championship gap to 52 points between the McLaren star and the Dutchman, with six races left in the electrifying 2024 F1 season.

Even with Norris’ impressive win at the Marina Bay Street Circuit, Verstappen's lead allows him to finish second to Norris in the remaining rounds and still clinch the title, even if the British driver picks up the fastest lap.

As McLaren picked up the pace at the Miami Grand Prix, Red Bull’s performance, on the other hand, started going downhill at that point.

Even though McLaren seems to be the one setting the pace now, it's important to remember that Verstappen has still secured seven race victories this season, compared to just three for Norris.

Despite that, former Haas Team Principal, Guenther Steiner stands behind an opinion that Norris is the favourite one to win the championship at this point.

"In my opinion, Lando is in a better position than Max. 60:40 for me," he told Sky Sports.

"Lando needs a little help from Ferrari. If they can get in between McLaren and Red Bull, they'll steal a few points from Red Bull. I think Lando would like it if Ferrari does that.”

McLaren holds a 41 point gap from Red Bull in the Constructors’ Championship, which only adds to the overall pressure on the reigning champions.

"Now it's not so easy [for Red Bull] anymore, there is pressure," Steiner said.

"Will they win the Championship this year? I do not think so. I think McLaren will win it."

Although Steiner is no longer a central figure during race weekends, he continues to be candid about his experiences in Formula 1.
