Eddie Jordan believes Liam Lawson is the best replacement for Sergio Perez Red Bull can opt for, saying that the Mexican doesn’t stand a chance of keeping his seat.

Sergio Perez’s position at Red Bull has come under growing pressure this season, as he has struggled not only to reach the podium but also to achieve high point-scoring finishes.

Over the last six races, Perez has only managed to score 12 points, placing him far behind his teammate, Max Verstappen. This gap has raised concerns within Red Bull, with team advisor Helmut Marko openly expressing his frustration about Perez’s performance.

The Austrian has also noted that Perez’s inability to consistently close the gap with Verstappen is a challenge for Red Bull’s championship ambitions, sparking speculation that the team might consider other driver options for 2025.

One promising candidate is Liam Lawson, the young driver who stepped in for Daniel Ricciardo at Red Bull’s sister team after the Singapore Grand Prix. Since then, the New Zealander has consistently impressed with his solid and confident performances. In last weekend’s Sao Paulo Grand Prix, he crossed the line in ninth place, notably finishing ahead of Lewis Hamilton.

Eddie Jordan, owner of a former F1 team Jordan, has been an outspoken supporter of Liam Lawson, describing him as a talent who is fully prepared to excel if given the opportunity in a high-performing car.

“The person who stood out for me, and I have to be honest again - Lawson is the real deal here,” said Jordan on the Formula For Success podcast.

“He drove with a lot of pressure, and he knows how to handle himself.

“He has not got the car that Lewis [Hamilton] had. He had not got the car that other people had but he displayed a level of competence that I was super impressed with.”

Jordan believes Lawson’s skills and readiness make him the ideal candidate to replace Perez if Red Bull decides on a lineup change. He has expressed confidence that Perez won’t retain his seat in 2025, strongly backing Lawson as the best choice to keep Red Bull competitive next season.

“He [Lawson] is ready to fly in 2025,” he stated.

“Perez, how many chances has he? Do you think he'll have a drive next year? Not a chance.

“He’s a lovely, lovely, lovely guy. But we know lovely guys don't win you grands prix.

“Lawson is the deal, he's part of the family there, part of the make-up, and he should be in.

“He is the person that should be in that car.”
