Ferrari is poised to make Formula 1 history at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix by featuring both Charles and Arthur Leclerc in the opening practice session.
This weekend’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix will be a special moment in Formula 1 history. For the first time, two brothers, Charles and Arthur Leclerc, will drive for the same team in an official session as both will represent Ferrari during FP1.
Charles, a regular F1 driver with eight race wins, will continue his strong season and try to help Ferrari snatch the Constructors’ Championship from McLaren.
His younger brother, Arthur, gets a chance to shine in the SF-24 as part of Ferrari’s rookie program, stepping in for Carlos Sainz.
The opportunity comes after a busy year for Arthur, where he raced in the European Le Mans Series, winning the 4 Hours of Imola, and worked as Ferrari’s Development Driver. Last year, he was also driving in Formula 2, however, finished the season only in 15th place.
This weekend will also mark the end of an era for Sainz at Ferrari. After four successful years with the team, including four wins and 22 podiums, Sainz will say goodbye and prepare for a new chapter with Williams.
Arthur’s chance in FP1 comes after Ferrari had to change plans for their rookie driver program. Earlier this season, Oliver Bearman drove in practice sessions, but he is no longer eligible after racing in three Grands Prix this year as the rookie rule allows only the ones with two or less, which opened the door for Arthur.
