The team principals have ranked their top 10 drivers of the 2024 F1 season. Who made it among the best? The results are not surprising.
Max Verstappen has once again been named the best driver of the Formula 1 season by all ten team principals, unanimously taking the top spot in the annual poll conducted by F1.com.
This marks the fourth consecutive year Verstappen has received this honor, solidifying his dominance in the sport after clinching his fourth world title in 2024.
Each team principal was asked to rank their top 10 drivers of the season, with points awarded using the F1 scoring system (25 for first place, 18 for second, and so on). For the first time in the seven-year history of this poll, a driver received the maximum 250 points, as all team bosses placed Verstappen in first.
Lando Norris, who finished second in the drivers’ championship, also took second in the poll, improving by one position from last year. He ended with 72 points fewer than Verstappen.
Charles Leclerc secured third place, moving up one spot from the 2023 rankings and delivering another strong year for Ferrari.
Oscar Piastri made the biggest leap among the top-ranked drivers, rising three spots to take fourth place. Piastri’s second season with McLaren saw him secure two victories (his maiden one at the Hungarian Grand Prix and the second one later at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix) and contribute significantly to McLaren’s constructors’ championship victory, their first since 1998.
Carlos Sainz claimed fifth place, one position higher than last year, capping off his Ferrari career before his move to Williams.
George Russell also climbed three spots to sixth, while his Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton dropped two places to seventh.
Nico Hulkenberg entered the top 10 for the first time, finishing eighth after an impressive season with Haas, earning votes from nine out of ten team principals.
Fernando Alonso suffered the steepest drop, falling from second to ninth after a challenging season with Aston Martin.
Completing the top 10 was Pierre Gasly, who delivered strong performances for Alpine late in the season, including a podium finish at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
