"It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Eddie Jordan OBE, the ex-Formula 1 team owner, TV pundit and entrepreneur," statement from the family reads.

"He passed away peacefully with family by his side in Cape Town in the early hours of 20 March 2025."

The charismatic former Formula 1 team owner, pundit, and entrepreneur, was a family man at heart. He was married to Marie, with whom he shared four children. Despite his busy career, Jordan remained deeply connected to his family, who were by his side in his final moments.

In late 2024, Jordan revealed that he had been fighting cancer for most of the year. However, he chose to keep his illness private while he focused on treatment. But even during this tough time, he stayed involved in the sport he loved.

Jordan’s started out running a team in junior racing before making the leap to Formula 1 in 1991 with his own team, Jordan Grand Prix. His team became famous for giving young drivers a chance, most notably Michael Schumacher, who made his F1 debut with Jordan in 1991.

His first F1 victory came in 1998, when Damon Hill won the Belgian Grand Prix. The next year, Jordan Grand Prix had its best season, with Heinz-Harald Frentzen fighting for the championship. However, losing a key engine deal in 2002 made things difficult, and by 2005, Jordan sold the team. Though the name disappeared, the team lived on and eventually became today’s Aston Martin F1 Team.

After leaving team ownership, Jordan became a well-known TV pundit. He joined the BBC’s F1 coverage in 2009, where his bold opinions and inside knowledge made him a fan favorite. He was the first to report that Lewis Hamilton would switch to Mercedes in 2012, weeks before it was confirmed.

Later, he moved to Channel 4’s F1 team and even briefly hosted Top Gear. In 2023, he started a podcast called Formula for Success with former F1 driver David Coulthard, where he shared stories and insights from his years in the sport.

Eddie Jordan will be remembered not only for his achievements in racing but also for his passion, energy, and big personality. News.GP sends its heartfelt condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time.
