News.gp journalist and a girl with big dreamsCarlos Sainz has revealed that he aims to secure one last win with Ferrari before leaving for Williams in 2025.
Earlier this year, Carlos Sainz signed a multi-year contract with Williams after Ferrari surprised everyone by signing seven-time F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton at the start of the season.
Even though he is excited to work with Williams in 2025, it was still a bit of a hard pill for him to swallow, given his impressive performance over the years at Ferrari, where he consistently matched the pace of his teammate Charles Leclerc.
Since joining the Italian team in 2021, Carlos Sainz has enjoyed several standout achievements. He secured his first-ever pole position and race victory at the 2022 British Grand Prix, and in 2023, he became the only driver outside of Red Bull to claim a win, with his victory in Singapore.
He claimed his third career and most recent victory at this year’s Australian Grand Prix, just two weeks after undergoing surgery for appendicitis.
With his time at Ferrari coming to an end soon, Sainz is determined to secure one final victory for the team, he has experienced his best F1 years with.
“Obviously it’s at the top of my list to try and win at least once again with Ferrari before I leave,” said Sainz quoted by F1.com.
“It’s in my head, not because I’m leaving at the end of the year with Ferrari, but because I always try to win every race that I go to.
“Let’s see. At the same time, it’s still one-third of the season left. It’s quite a lot actually when you think about it, and there’s three Sprints, plenty of the season left to go, so let’s go race by race.”
As the 2024 season approaches its final six races, Carlos Sainz holds fifth place in the drivers’ championship with 190 points, placing him 16 points ahead of his successor, Lewis Hamilton, in sixth.
