The Cadillac Formula 1 Team, backed by General Motors and TWG Motorsports, has received official approval to join the F1 grid in 2026. This marks an exciting new chapter as Cadillac makes its entry into the world of Formula 1.
Formula 1 has officially confirmed that the Cadillac Formula 1 Team has been approved to join the grid in 2026. The team is backed by TWG Motorsports and General Motors (GM), and it will become the 11th team on the grid.
Today, both the FIA (International Automobile Federation) and Formula One Management confirmed that Cadillac has met all the necessary requirements to join the current 10 teams. This marks an exciting new chapter for the sport as GM’s Cadillac brand enters Formula 1.
Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula 1, expressed his excitement about this change. As he said in a report, “As we announced in November, GM’s commitment to bringing a Cadillac team to Formula 1 is a positive step for the sport’s evolution. I want to thank GM and TWG Motorsports for their hard work and engagement over the past months. We look forward to welcoming them to the grid in 2026 for what will be an exciting year for F1.”
FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem also shared his enthusiasm: “Today is a landmark moment. I am proud to lead the FIA as we take this progressive step in the championship. The expansion to an 11th team in 2026 is a huge milestone. GM and Cadillac bring fresh energy, perfectly aligning with the new 2026 F1 regulations. This will usher in an exciting era for the sport.”
