The Solidarity Grand Prix of Barcelona, a last-minute replacement for Valencia, has been honored as the best MotoGP event of the year by the IRTA. The event not only showcased exceptional teamwork but also made history as Jorge Martin became the first satellite rider to claim the MotoGP title, all while supporting Valencia in the wake of devastating floods.
The Solidarity Grand Prix of Barcelona, which replaced the canceled Valencia event, has been named the best Grand Prix by the MotoGP Teams’ Association (IRTA).
After the devastating floods that struck Valencia during the Malaysian Grand Prix, the Barcelona circuit stepped up with just ten days to organize the season finale and post-race test.
This remarkable event saw Jorge Martin make history as the first satellite rider to claim the MotoGP title.
“We are very proud of how the sport united in Barcelona,” said IRTA president Hervé Poncharal.
“The Solidarity GP’s impact in supporting Valencia during their time of need was extraordinary. The incredible effort to stage this event on such short notice made it unique.
“Beyond that, it stood out in every aspect: historic achievements like the first MotoGP crown for an Independent Team rider, a sold-out crowd, and a level of organization that seemed as if we had been planning for months.
“We deeply thank the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya staff, everyone in the sport who worked tirelessly, and the fans who turned out in force to witness history and contribute to this collective effort.”
The Sunday finale attracted 62,123 fans, with the total weekend attendance reaching 134,848, as Martin was crowned the champion.
Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta praised the event, calling it one of the greatest achievements in the modern era of MotoGP.
“We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who made this possible and congratulate the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on this well-deserved recognition. This award reflects the incredible teamwork behind the scenes that delivered a spectacular event with an electrifying atmosphere and significant positive impact—hallmarks of MotoGP’s DNA.
“Finally, we thank the fans for their unwavering passion. The sold-out crowd surpassed all expectations, transforming this Grand Prix into something truly special. Your enthusiasm is central to what we achieve together, racing for Valencia.”
