After months of speculations surrounding the future of the legendary F1 designer, who announced earlier this year in May, that he would be ending his long-term partnership with Red Bull in early 2025, a final confirmation of his plans is expected before the next race in Baku.

Although Newey was initially closely associated with a move to Ferrari, there were also some rumours that Aston Martin might be actually his choice in the end.

Aston Martin’s owner Lawrence Stroll personally worked very hard to convince Newey to join the team, and a secret visit to the Silverstone factory in June is thought to have played a big role in Newey's decision. Rumourly, the second convincing factor should’ve also been a contract valued at £20 million per year. Signing of Newey is so crucial for Stroll mainly because it would be a huge step in his personal goal to turn the former Force India team, which was drowning in debts, into a championship-winning stable.

Newey, who played a pivotal role Red Bull’s memorable success with drivers like Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen, is regarded as the most accomplished individual in Formula 1, who has designed the most powerful cars in the sport’s all-time history. At the age of 65 and working in Formula 1 for over four decades, Newey has secured over 200 race wins, along with 12 Constructor’s Championship titles, 5 being with Williams, 1 with McLaren, and 6 with Red Bull.

Newey’s move to Aston Martin is expected to be announced before the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, taking place in 2 weeks at the Baku City Circuit.
